WebNov 8, 2024 · The flyby anomaly is a persistent riddle in astrodynamics. Orbital analysis in several flybys of the Earth since the Galileo spacecraft flyby of the Earth in 1990 have shown that the asymptotic post-encounter velocity exhibits a difference with the initial velocity that cannot be attributed to conventional effects. WebI lead a team of 5 (4 fellow UT students) to research the flyby anomaly in conjunction with JPL over the course of a semester. The project title was FLARE, the Flyby Anomaly Research Endeavor.

In multiple cases, spacecraft have been observed to gain greater speed than scientists had … See more Gravitational assists are valuable techniques for Solar System exploration. WebIndeed, no anomaly was observed during the 2009 Rosetta flyby. This doesn't contradict Anderson's equation, which predicted an anomaly smaller than 1mm/s. Lacking the data … WebMay 15, 2024 · Even more intriguing is the flyby anomaly, i. e., the unexplained difference among the post-encounter and the pre-encounter Doppler residuals of a spacecraft in a gravity assist manoeuver around the Earth (Anderson et al., 2008). The first detection of the effect occurred during the first Galileo flyby of the Earth on December, 8th, 1990. WebHutchin, R. (2024) The Physics behind the NASA Flyby Anomaly.
